Died in his sleep in Jackson, MS. His son Rusty Keslinger stated to Kevin Ross, Virgil's first born son, that he died Tuesday (Sep 3), and Rusty found him Friday (Sep 6) in bed. It looked like he had been reading the night he died. A book
was found near his head on the bed. Rusty says no autopsy was ordered so no precise date of death is known, but he was found Sep 6 and so that is reflected in the official death certificate. He died of natural causes; probably a heart attack
- he was overweight, drank too much alcohol according to Rusty. He needed a gall bladder operation, but hadn't scheduled one.
Virgil's body was cremated.
Virgil had previously denied to Rusty having fathered his first born children Robin and Kevin. Kevin "found" his half-brother Rusty through the internet white pages about 3 years before and contacted him via AOL when he discovered Rusty had an
AOL account. They had only conversed with each other through instant messages and email. When Virgil died Rusty sent Kevin an email message asking him to call him, and he left his cell phone number. Kevin called Rusty on Sunday, September
8th and learned of his biological father's death, not having seen his father since about the age of 2 or 3.
Upon Kevin's request, Rusty sent Kevin the pictures found in Virgil's belongings.
Rusty sent Kevin pictures of Robin and Kevin as young children before their adoption and after. The pictures were found among Virgil's effects. The pictures, it was surmised had previously been the property of their grandmother, Virgil's
mother Lottie. Among the pictures also were pictures of Robin, Kevin and their adoptive sister Julie, then living with their adoptive parents, Holman and Betty Hauge.
